Ribbon Embroidery + Yoga Retreat with Madame Venus Atelier

Escape the Olympics to dream of Fragonard, Dangerous Liaisons and Watteau while you embroider an ornate cushion or stomacher, carefully guided by designer Madame Venus Atelier. What's Happening

How to Ribbon Embroider a Fantasy Piece

Do you just love historical costume? Or fancy reenactment? Or geek out on sewing and crafts? The marvellous designer Beatrice Pattaralowha, aka burlesque dancer Veronica Venus, will show you how to make an exquiste 18th century-inspired stomacher, to wear to the ball or frame, or an embroidered silk cushion to treasure. In a series of specialised workshops and sewing sessions, with materials provided, you will learn the art of ribbon embroidery, original 18th-century French sewing techniques and the history of dress from that era.

Anyone who loves sewing, or wants to learn about it, will relish this unique masterclass and come away with a show-stopping piece.

Yoga

Vinyasa Flow sessions indoors or out will leave you feeling rejuvenated and strong, with sequences designed to open up the body, unblock trapped energy and release tension.

Food and Drink

Meals will be largely vegetarian, Ottolenghi-inspired and locally sourced where possible. Coffee, tea, fruit and pastries will be available throughout the day. Wine will be served with dinner. Each guest will pair up with another to prepare one dinner, with ingredients and recipes supplied and help at hand.

Outing

On Thursday, you can visit Paris during the Olympics or we will visit the magnificent Chantilly Castle, home to several Watteau masterpieces

Free time

In your free time, you can walk to the Chapelle Saint Catherine, a spot visited by Joan of Arc in the nearby woods, go swimming in a lake, ride a bike to the farmshop, learn to walk the tightrope, or just soak up the atmosphere at the chateau. We also have a dressing-up room full of magical costumes, accessories, hats and props, and encourage you to dive in during your stay.

A special guest speaker may join us for dinner.
